CROSSTRAINERS

CrossTrainers exists to create loving, Christ-centered mentorships between college students and at-risk kids and teens in our community. These college students meet one-on-one with their assigned kid a few times a month as a means to demonstrate the love of Jesus and help them grow into the young man or woman they were always intended to become.

There are two ways to be involved with Crosstrainers:

  1. You can be a Crosstrainers Mentor
  2. You can be on the Lead Team for Crosstrainers

CROSSTRAINERS MENTOR

Through CrossTrainers, you will have the opportunity to experience cross-cultural ministry by loving children in need, serving the local Athens community.

Expectations and Time Commitment For Mentors: 3-4 hours/week

  • Attending small group led by CrossTrainers interns (1.5 hours every other week)
  • Assisting with and attending Spring Retreat and monthly group events for kid/mentors (time varies)
  • Meeting with your assigned child/teen (1 hour every other week)
  • Wesley Service (1.5 hours)

CROSSTRAINERS LEAD

Through CrossTrainers Lead, you will have the opportunity to experience cross-cultural ministry by loving children in need, serving the local Athens community, and investing in the other college students who will be serving these kids and community alongside you. You will be a contact point for other mentors throughout the year to assist with mentor troubleshooting and will help the interns lead events.

Expectations and Time Commitment for Lead Team: 4 hours/week

  • Leading small group led for other CrossTrainers mentors (1.5 hours every other week)
  • Assisting with and attending Spring Retreat and monthly group events for kid/mentors (time varies)
  • Meeting with your assigned child/teen (1 hour every other week)

WESLEY CONNECT

A Wesley Connect Leader’s main job is to help create a fun and inviting environment on Wednesday Nights. A Wesley Connect Leader would be responsible to help facilitate all pre-service, mid-service, and post-service guest services offered to students. These responsibilities include greeting, ushering, decorating, working the welcome center, initiating conversations, and setting an environment that lets all students know that they matter. Wesley Connect Leaders will also be expected to follow up with new students outside of Wednesday night. We are looking for students who are willing to be the first ones to show up and the last to leave because they come alive having fun and making other people feel welcome and included.

Expectations and Time Commitment: 5-6 hours/week

  • Wednesday Night Service Set Up: (1 hours)
  • Wednesday Night Service
  • Bi-weekly one-on-one Discipleship (1 hour)
  • Follow Up With new students (Occasionally)

APPLICATION FAQS

  • You must fill out a separate application for each area you wish to be a part of. For example, if you wish to lead a small group, serve with CrossTrainers and be discipled, you will fill out a Lead, a Serve, and a Discipleship application separately.

DISCIPLESHIP CHANGES AND QUESTIONS

Discipleship is the main avenue for us to be able to invest in you here at Wesley. Our aim through discipleship is for you to have an experience that will allow you to take new steps with God. We understand that commitments and desires may change where you no longer wish to be Discipled or you may desire to change your Discipler.

The form below provides an opportunity to inform us about your discipleship situation and how you would like to move forward. We will contact you as soon as possible to follow up.

If you desire to no longer be discipled, this form is required to officially drop from LEAD/grow.
