Secrets of the Secret Place Chapter 8: The Secret of Decision Making

The essence of this chapter can be perfectly captured in two verses from Psalm 32.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, which have no understanding, which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, else they will not come near you.” (v. 8-9)

In those verses, there’s a command and a promise. First, God promises to guide us through decisions. Plain and simple. He promises not to leave us alone to navigate whatever situation or struggle is occupying our thoughts. What He commands of us in response is also simple. All he wants is that we draw close to Him.
 
The horse and the mule have to be tied up in order to stay on course, but God has so much more for us. He wants us to have an understanding that can’t be gained by brute guidance. If we turn our focus from the situation or decision at hand to look at who the Lord says He is, He promises clarity will come.

I’ll leave you with a quote from Sorge: “God’s primary desire for your life is not that you discover His will and walk in it; His primary desire is that you draw near to Him and come to know Him.”
