Secrets of the Secret Place Chapter 24: The Secret of Getting Dressed

John writes in his Revelation, “The accuser of our brothers and sisters (also translated as “accuser of the brethren”) … accuses them before God day and night. Satan accuses God of pampering his “blameless and upright” servant, Job (1:8). Fasting 40 days in the wilderness, Jesus was tempted by Satan three times. Satan attacks in difficult times, he attacks in prosperous times. We must, therefore, prepare ourselves for his attacks at all times.
 
 
Paul writes to the Ephesians, “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes” (6:10,11). But what does “putting on” mean, practically speaking? Think of each element as a metaphor for knowledge. The belt of truth is the truth of God’s promises. The breastplate of righteousness is the right standing you have with God, all thanks to Jesus’ blood. Shoes of peace is peace only trust in God can provide. Shield of faith is faith in the Resurrection. Helmet of salvation is salvation and eternal life gained by the Cross. Sword of the Spirit is the Word of God, who was with God and was God in the beginning (v. 14-17). Do you see the spectacular from this? Paul explains in his letter to the Romans, “Clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ” (13:14).
 
Since you carry the Holy Spirit, you carry God’s revealed knowledge–truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, the Word of God–which defeats Satan’s attacks.
 
We are not called to fight but once we are clothed in Christ we are called to stand. Satan cannot defeat our savior Jesus–and that is how we are seen before the Father as we are clothed in His Son.
