Wednesday Night Recap - 09/21/16

In the first night of “The Greatest of These” series, Bob talked about the importance of love and the role of obedience in our relationship with God. One of the key takeaways of the message was that no matter how good our actions are, if they are not motivated by love, they mean nothing. In fact, our love is the only standard by which we will be measured by at the end of our days. Bob also addressed the question “how do I love God”? According to John 14:23, obedience is God’s love language. This is the most simple, yet at times, hardest way to love God, but the fruit of obedience will always be worth it!
 
So what do we do now? Where do we go with a message like that?
 
It can be simple, really.
 
We start by honestly examining our love. Read 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 and ask yourself if they way you treat people can be characterized with those descriptions. In ways where it does line up, praise God! In ways that it does not, you can simply confess to God and ask Him to help you love His way.
 
Then, you can start putting love into practice. When it comes to loving God through obedience, start by asking Him to show you what He wants you to do. God is not an angry puzzle-maker who gets frustrated when you cannot find the pieces; He won’t ask you to do something in a language you could never translate. He will lead you to obedience through prompts that are communicated clearly to you. When it comes to loving people, throw pride out of the window, and ask people for a chance to start over. Ask for their forgiveness, and then learn to rely on the Holy Spirit to display to them God’s love. It will not always be easy, but the joy of healthy relationships will greatly outweigh the pain of laying down your pride.
