It can be easy to wonder when God stepped into our picture. To question where He was in our past. The truth is altogether mind-blowing and priceless.
That truth is this: We have so much history with God. Not only has God been in the picture since the beginning of time, He’s been in your picture since your beginning. Knowing this truth gives God a lot of credibility in my mind. If you ever want to know what God thinks about you, I encourage you to read Psalm 139. Then read it again. It’s that good. There are a couple lines that I want to highlight specifically. In verses 15-16 it says, “My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
This is your history with God. This is His credibility. Not only were you created by God, but God spent time dreaming up the good things He wants for your life. He’s been there longer than we could know. Not only that, but He entered into life with with you, with me, so that we might walk in step with Him. This tells us one core truth about our God: He is intentional. And He is intentional because He cares enough about you to call amazing things for your life into existence.
Not only has God been there longer than we might think, but He is still here involved in what is happening now. I went through a pretty hard season during my sophomore year of college. It was a time in my life that brought me to my knees. And from that posture, I wondered where God was in it all. I also found that I not only wondered where He was in the moment, but I forgot all of my history with Him. In that confusion and doubt, God revealed Himself to me in my present and showed me that He was there all along, and He never left. Not for one moment.
In that season, God taught me another one of His core truths: He is present in today. I don’t know what your today looks like. It could be a season of triumph or a season of trial. In all of it, God is present, He is near, and He is walking in step with you.
How do I know that God is with you in your today? Because He was with the people of Israel in their today. As they prepared to fight for their promised land, Moses, having been told he would not enter the land, encouraged the Israelites in hopes for their faith in God to increase. In Deuteronomy 31:6 Moses says, “Be strong and courageous; don’t be terrified or afraid of them. For the LORD your God is the one who will go with you; he will not leave you or abandon you.”
How amazing is that? Your God will not only walk with you in your present life, but He will never leave your side. He is not a God who comes and goes. He is constant, steadfast, and bought in. Because of your Father, who is intentional and present, you can rest in your history and walk in your today knowing that He is with you, He is for you and He will never leave you.
