Everyday

To know Jesus every day we have to consistently remind ourselves of the big picture. That it was always God’s plan for us to know Him and that He WANTS us to know Him. That He’s not hiding Himself from you and there is so much beauty in knowing God.

I think that knowing Jesus every day is a lot more simple than we think. The process of learning who God is can seem daunting, but it’s really a combination of a bunch of little things that leads us to the big picture of who God is.

The phrase “it is not separate” is something I’ve been thinking about lately. Meaning our regular, every day lives are not separate from our lives with God. God is involved in EVERYTHING. Even the seemingly meaningless activities that we do every day. Look for God in all of it because He’s there. God is big enough and He cares about you enough to move in any situation. Be on the lookout for Him!

So what does it mean to me to know Jesus every day?? Well here’s a few things I see God in…

People. Community.

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.“ - Ephesians 4:2-3

Each person carries a piece of God’s heart. There are specific fruits and characteristics that you carry that reveal who God is to the people around you. You can see God’s kindness, His gentleness, His peace, patience, humility, mercy, love through the people you come in contact with. If you’re not paying attention, you might miss it, but God is there in the people you meet every day.

Gratitude.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” - James 1:17

Another big way that I know God every day is just being thankful for what He has given me. Taking time to think about the reality that I’m living in, and a lot of that is the fruit of prayers I’ve prayed in the past. Also taking time to thank God for who He is, and that he CHOSE me. He chooses to love me. It’s not something I have to earn. He wants to love you. Let that sink in. Take time to thank God for who He is to you.

Stillness.

“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”  - James 4:8

In the midst of a busy schedule, take time to be still with God. Even if it’s just for a few minutes. There’s a lot of power in quiet, stillness. When you quiet your mind, quiet the spinning to-do lists, quiet the voices of people telling you what do to and just be still, God has room to speak. God is speaking to you all the time, but sometimes you need to be still to focus on what He’s saying.

Worship.

“All my heart
All my soul
All I own
You can have it all”
-Alabaster Heart (Bethel Music)

Incorporate worship into your every day. Worship doesn’t have to look like singing songs, but it absolutely can. Worship is surrendering to God, saying I am nothing without you, and I am holding everything I have with open hands and you can have it all. Worship is telling God that He is the most important thing to you and He holds the highest place in your heart.

A combination of these things and a lot more contributes to me knowing God every day. There’s not a formula to follow or a list of things to check off. If you treat knowing God like a do to list, you’re missing the point. I’m not pursuing these methods of knowing God, I’m pursuing God Himself, and these things are ways that enable me to know God. Bringing God into everything I do is a gift. Getting to know God myself, enables me to lead others to know God. God is good. I am absolutely sure of that. I hope that you can see His goodness in your every day because He is there.
