A Filling of Hope

Today is full of heightened emotions. There are feelings of fear, frustration, apathy, resignation, anger, mistrust and more running rampant. We all recognize that there is a threat of darkness, just waiting for us to open the door to it. The enemy is poised to strike, because he knows our fears. But the enemy only has one hope in his attack: that we would listen to the lies he is feeding us which say our future is hopeless. 
 
Hear this: it is a lie. OUR FUTURE IS NOT HOPELESS!! 
 
In fact, we can be filled with hope. 
 
Yes, today has a large impact on our country. Yes, there is a lot of uncertainty in the world. Yes, there is division. But we are not without HOPE. Our faith was never in a candidate or a party anyway. A political system is not our religion. No president can be our Savior.
 
We already have the best Savior. Not only is He the one who defeated death and the grave on our behalf, but He also calls us friend. He is so close. Even in the midst of this tense cultural moment, He is closer than the breath you breathe. He is never forsaking you, us or our country. That doesn’t mean that we are promised smooth sailing or an easy life on earth… but He has overcome the world already! Friends, there is certainly hope.
 
“I lift my eyes to the hills -  where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.”  - Psalm 121:1
 
Regardless of the outcome, our help comes from the Lord, and He is GREAT. He didn’t just make America - He made the heavens and earth, and He rules over all of it. He is in control, and He has used broken people before to do His handiwork. Even David, who was a man after God’s own heart, was far from perfect. But God used him to lead a nation. Let’s pray that He does the same here.
 
As a body, we are united by far greater ties than politics. We are united by our loyalty to Christ, which is first and foremost. Let’s pray together for unity, peace and recognition of Jesus as King. 
 
Lord, You are our source of Hope. Thank You for Your Promises. Thank You for being so close. We ask for forgiveness wherever we have idolized our politics over You. We want You to be King in our lives. We pray for unity in our body, in our city and in our country. We pray for an ability to understand those who have different backgrounds from us. We pray for peace and protection from violence. Come move in our lives and show us the way You are leading us. It’s in Your Name we pray,
Amen.
