How to Fight in Prayer

There's that one thing you want so badly. You just know that if God were to move and do something, everything would change. Maybe it's healing from anxiety or depression, maybe is getting into grad school, or maybe it's victory over a battle you've been fighting for what feels like forever. Whatever it is, we've all been there, at the end of our rope, desperate for God to show up and scared about what will happen if he doesn't.

Jesus spent constant time interceding for humanity. Even on the cross, he begs the father to forgive us, the very ones who put him there. His life was marked by contending prayer. His prayer was fulfilled through the cross, because we have salvation through his death and resurrection. But even though Jesus' prayer was ultimately fulfilled, he didn't see everyone he knew come to believe him. People still rejected his message. That doesn’t mean his prayers were wasted, it means that we get to continue what he started. The call to ask God for salvation, healing, and deliverance is ours to claim through the Holy Spirit. It didn't end with Jesus, it continues with us.

Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. - Matthew 7:7 NLT

We are called to be persistent warriors. We have been given the weapon of prayer, and prayer changes everything. Through prayer, we have direct access to our Father, who is the source of all good things. So when we face sickness and defeat, we keep on asking for healing and victory. Jesus didn’t stop asking even when he was staring death in the face. That means, we have the power to keep asking, even when we don’t know if God is going to come through the way we want him to.

So what is that one thing you want to see God do? Ask God to fill you with hope that he is who he says he is, that he is capable. And then, keep asking for breakthrough. Let your persistence bring you closer to God as you learn to rely on him and trust him. Keep on asking, the promise is yours.
