Operating Out of Abundance

There is a book that I have been reading called The Supernatural Ways of Royalty by Kris Vallotton and Bill Johnson. As I was praying about which direction to take this blog in, I thought this next bit was important to mention. Our faithfulness is not defined by that of servant/master, our faithfulness to God is that of King/prince(ss). God is King of Kings, and he is, also, our dad. We hold the two in tandem, knowing that God is to be obeyed while also knowing we have access to a deep relationship with him. We are royalty in the kingdom of God. Everything that Jesus has is ours as well. We are not operating out of poverty, we are operating out of abundance. You are inheriting a kingdom. Use your wildest imagination, God still has more than that for you. God is better than you think he is, and he loves you more than you think he does.

As people of God, we are marked by his love (John 13:35). Children are marked by the characteristics of their father. Our father is kind, loving, deeply good, powerful, willing, etc. That is the image we are reflecting to the world. God has set a seal on each of his kids. We are faithful to him, because he has been faithful to us. The only reason we are able to follow through with our commitments is because he has gone before us. He paves the way for us. Our faithfulness is a response to who God is, not what our circumstances are.

Being faithful with what we have means giving it away. We are not meant to be an insecure people that act like orphans. We are not meant to be a people that hoard everything we are given, holding it with an iron grip. That is not the reality of heaven. We give away what has been given to us because it was never meant to end with us. We are the ones that God asks to call the reality of heaven down. The world desperately needs what God has given you: the knowledge, experiences, testimonies, etc. God has more than enough for you to get your portion and everyone else to get theirs as well.

The parable of the talents that Jesus teaches on is something that comes to mind when I think of the idea of being faithful (Matthew 25: 14-29). The summary version is that there were three men in the story. The master gave one 5 talents, one 2 talents, and the last one got 1 talent. The first two put their money to use and went out to work. When their master returned, they had doubled it. The last one, with the little that he had, stored it away, fearing he would lose it all if he didn’t. When the master returned, his portion remained the same. The following verse was said to the two servants that doubled their amount:

“The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let's celebrate together!” – Matthew 25:21

God will continue to fill up your cup as you pour out. The very source and sustenance of life is knowing Jesus. Jesus will give you spheres of influence to steward and to call the reality of heaven forward. The way we do that is by knowing God and acting like children. Children of God don’t act for approval, they act from approval. This is a core difference that allows you to risk everything given to you to follow the voice of God. Even if it becomes a mistake, you have already earned his approval. Seek first the kingdom of God, and everything else will be added to you. I truly believe one of the reasons Jesus instructs us to give away ourselves is he knows that we will receive more than we ever imagined. Even if we only receive more of God by risking everything, the very best thing in the world is knowing and being known by God.
